What is a tanning accelerator?

In shopping searches, “tanning cream” and “tanning lotion” are often used as broad descriptions for topical tanning cosmetics. Texture can vary from a lighter lotion to a richer cream, but the useful question is what the individual formula contains and what the manufacturer says it is designed to do.
Look for clear information about whether a product contains bronzer, whether it is a tingle formula, its format and whether it has an SPF claim.
What does “sunbed tanning cream” mean?
“Sunbed tanning cream” is a common shopping phrase, but it should not be treated as a safety certification. Sunbeds expose skin to ultraviolet radiation. The UK Health Security Agency discourages the use of sunbeds for cosmetic tanning, and current Health and Safety Executive guidance for commercial operators says risk assessments are based on clean skin and advises customers to avoid accelerants.
If you use a commercial sunbed, follow the salon and equipment manufacturer’s instructions. Do not use a cosmetic product where the operator or equipment guidance says clean skin or no accelerants.

What should you check before choosing a tanning cream?
1. Bronzer or no bronzer
